Fantastic find!

This is the first and only time I have seen an actual publication in reference to the NSFK 1938 national competition of indoor model airplanes in Frankfurt a. M.

What publication is that from? Is this a recent acquisition?

Sure would like to find a copy to display with my enamel Saalflugmodell badge.

In Henrik's posting above of the wonderful NSFK publication, "Nachrichten der NSFK Gruppe 11" in the top image, lower left hand picture, you will see a Bauprüfer. These were model airplane performance and safety inspectors. The little model airplanes had to be inspected and approved before it could be qualified for competition. Here is an ausweis from my collection belonging to one of these Model Airplane Performance Inspectors.

The last item you have pictured is a 1937 award for flight navigation. It is certainly authentic. As is the 1940 NSFK service book.

There are those that say ALL of the enameled NSFK awards or badges are not authentic to the TR period. They say this because this is what they have been told. I think they are wrong. The truth is .. Nobody truly knows the answer for sure. Some period documentation or photographs of the various badges in wear always helps, like the scans from the period document "Nachrichten der NSFK Gruppe 11" Henrik has posted above that proves without question the 1938 Saalflugmodelle badge is legitimate. I personally am very optimistic about these badges like your three. I think allot of good authentic items get wrongly assessed due to ignorance/paranoia. For some, it is simply easier to say a particular item is bad, when in reality, they do not know for certain. No one can prove your three badges are not authentic .. I personally think the first one you have pictured has a good chance. I would think these would be kind of an expensive badge to fake. Why fake an obscure NSFK competition badge? Doesn't make sense. The bottom line is authenticity versus resale ability ..

Here is one that Helmut Weitze calls a fake. His has a totally different pin retainer and also has rivets holding the Icarus on. The Icarus on your badge seems to be glued on. I guess I have lost my optimism for this badge..

I like your reply Mike. Especially when one considers the quality of a lot of these badges I can't imagine there would be much return in faking these relatively inexpensive (when compared to medals and badges) items. Having said that I'll post a few items I bought with the belief that they were good.

I saw my first Bodenleitstelle Berlin badges in the 1980's and then, suddenly, I saw them everywhere. At that time the badges sold for between $30 to $40 each and almost all were in immaculate shape. Though the dollar was worth more back then, it would have also cost a small fortune to produce these badges in relation to what they were bringing in the market. I thought it highly unlikely that anyone would create badges of such quality for the prices they were bringing. I have yet to see something that proves they are either original or fake.
