By the way, does anyone have a photo of Max Amann wearing the Coburg Badge? The extremely luxurious (and huge) book "Max Amann - Ein Leben fuer Fuehrer und Volk", done in 1941 to commemorate Max's 50th birthday, has numerous photos of him in uniform. In every picture he's wearing his GPB and his Blood Order (usually the medal and the ribbon)...but not once do you see him with the Coburg Badge. Oddly, the detailed chronology of his life in this book omits all mention of Coburg, and it's not mentioned in the text either. I have no idea why he wouldn't be seen wearing the prestigious Coburg Badge in these photos...

So, it appears there were only a few names added via DAL info?

Erich, Mark Y. had reported that Fritz Weitzel was recorded in his Personalakte as having received the Coburg Badge. Not only is it marked on his file card, but he reported having the badge in an SS questionnaire dated 1936. He reported joining the SA in 1923, which does not answer the Coburg question. He belonged to the early SAJ before entering the adult SA (birthdate is April 1904).
There is no other mention of the Coburg Badge in Weitzel's file besides the marking on the card and the questionnaire. He would only have been 18, but he could have joined the SA in Coburg. But he wasn't from Bavaria, where most if not all the SA men came from who joined Hitler in Coburg. So, perhaps he received it as an honorary presentation?

Like the silver version of the badge, I believe that there were honorary presentations made by Hitler but I have no proof of this. It makes sense due to the fact that Hitler had made honorary awards of the GPB and Blood Order so why would the CB be any different?

Hitler very well may have granted honorary CB's, but to Weitzel before 1936? He was an important senior SS general, but I can't imagine any particular relationship with Hitler that would have resulted in the honor. Perhaps it was from the SA OF where the CB conferral originated?Last edited by JoeW; 07-26-2011, 11:56 PM.

Erich, I was only reporting what Doehle wrote in his 1943 edition: the Coburg Badge was authorized through the OFSA.
As an aside, Weitzel's receipt of the CB is noted on his SS file card and in a questionnaire he signed found in his SS file. But none of the listings of his name in the 1934-1938 SS DALs indicate his receipt of the CB.

Yes, thanks for that image! Max wrote his reminiscences of the Coburg event for "Der SA-Mann, " October 23, 1937 - "Marsch der 800 in Coburg". I don' thave this issue - yet!
Here's a photo of Josef Berchtold at the 10th Anniversary of the 1923 Putsch. Is he wearing a CB on his Brown Shirt? Hard to tell. I found another NS publication which says he did receive the badge too.Attached Files
