There is an English translation edition of the 1943 Döhle book? I would consider asking for a refund. Compare yours with the citations from my original German in my post #764. The November 6, 1936 date was stated as the date of the Hitler order creating it as an Ehrenzeichen of the party. Döhle then states the authority to issue was vested in the OFSA.

Think about the statement "The right to wear the special Coburg badge was authorized on November 6, 1936 through the SA headquarters." We know the right to wear it was when it was given out on Oct 16, 1932. And the list printed by the OFSA posted here reinforces the statement that the Oberst-Fuhrung SA controlled the issue. The question has been when was it made an Ehrenzeichen of the party.

I haven't found the original announcement, but did find, in the SA Verordnungsblatt of 4. March 1935, a notice concerning the Coburg badge. In translation, it reads:
Some who took part in the reunion celebration of 1932 were ineligible as it was verified they were not at Coburg in 1922.
Due to this reason, on behalf of the Chancellory of Adolf Hitler an additional accurate review of every applicant will be carried out and to every authorized awardee an award document and certificate will be issued.
Feldjäger, Streifendienst, as well as all authorized patrols from Groups, Brigades, and Standarten are directed to immediately remove the award from every wearer of the Coburg badge who is not in possession of the award document signed by the Führer.

Okay, I think I have it straightened out.

I looked in the copy of Klaus Patzwall's article "Die Coburger Ehrenzeichen der NSDAP" published in "Militaria-Extra-Heft 1" published in 1994 and found the answer. ErichS was correct about Hess and the date is not in 1936 as many other authors in the past have published.

"Mit Anordnung 37/33 vom 9.November 1933,wurde das Koburger Abzeichen als parteiamtliches Ehrenzeichen durch den Stellvertreter der Fuhrers der NSDAP, Rudolf Hess, anerkannt." With the Decree 37/33 of November 9, 1933 by Rudolf Hess, Deputy of the Leader of the NSDAP, the Coburg Badge was recognized as an official party award.

Erich B, the Patzwall article also discussed the SA notice of the problem of people wearing the badge who were not authorized to do so, as well as the Reichswehr decree allowing the wering of the Coburg badge.

So the Coburg Badge was recognized as an official party award late in 1933. The other awards were added as they were either recognized or created, and all of them were then listed in the law of November 14, 1935 and subsequently listed in the first Organisationsbuch d. NSDAP.

Please post the info on Rosenbaur when you get it completed. Was he also awarded the BO along with the GPB?

Both the original list and the Lumsden list of Coberg Badge recipients include a "Georg Rosenbauer" -- note spelling -- but neither the Brückner/USArmy list or the Patzwall list of Blood Order recipients include this name. I have no information about this name receiving the GPB. Hope this is helpful.

In the listings of awardees in the NSDAP Hauptarchiv, there is the noticeable problem of phonetic misspellings and different given names.

I thought that I would repost this rare photo of Sister Pia wearing her CB badge, that Jon Fish had posted earlier in this thread. Sister Pia was one of the very few few women that was awarded the CB.

What was the number from the list? Five? Two direct recipients, two widows and one mother?

That sounds correct Joe. Interesting that the badge was given to the families of recipients who were deceased.

This photo from Coburg has been posted before but the man listed as # 2 has been identified as Kurt Ludecke. Thought it was interesting due to all the discussions we have had about him and the "Battle of Coburg".
