I had the pleasure of getting this Blood Order recently. Very strange in that someone has drilled a very small hole in the top, probably post war. At first I thought probably for a key chain but its a little small for that and not much pulling of the silver and wear around the hole that this would cause. It's pretty well worn in details so its been well used for something. Possibly an a thin neck chain.Or maybe even a small hole drilled by a collector many years ago for pinning on a display?
Never mind, its still a nice very early 2nd pattern medal to an SA mann,pretty much a 1st pattern in every way I Have a little documentation thanks to Mike Constandy wth hopefully more to follow, he always comes up trumps when researching these early party guys and I would thoroughly recommend him to WAF members.

More than a few Putsch vets received a 2nd pattern due to late applications for the medal.

Hi Greg,

A nice and unusual piece! The drawing on the obverse is a common representation of the Kampfzeit, though most often seen in b/w, but the postmark on the reverse caught my attention immediately. It was cancelled at a post office in Vienna on March 17, 1933 -- a month and a half after Hitler's appointment as Chancellor of Germany, and five years before the Anschluss on March 12, 1938! As an example of commemorative postal stationery, this piece is unique in appearing to formally acknowledge and endorse the existence of the DNSAP -- the Austrian branch of the National Socialist Party. Austrian politics was at a crisis point in March of 1933 with the struggle for control between fascist Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss, whose thin electoral majority was supported by Benito Mussolini, and a strong coalition of more democratically-based parties. This was a very tense and historically confusing time, and to see this card arise from that melee makes it the more interesting!

Having scrolled through this thread and not having found a view of this recently-acquired, unused Putsch card, I thought I would post it here for viewing and comments. The reverse is blank except for the printed details "A. Lengauer, Muenchen / Nr. 331a".
