I have no explanation for the tabs being on this tunic if indeed they are gold or yellow piped. Are you sure they are not badly faded out blue piped? I doubt they are because the blue tunic piping looks newer.

I know they have been putting things together for GI’s since the war ended to sell as souvenirs.
I know several guys today that can apply tabs to look period, so just because they look period applied, does not make them so.

So, if they are gilt/gold/yellow piped as you say, then they are not correct for this tunic.
Twisted cord piping was only used early on (circa 33-34) and was seldom seen and used after that. Angolia’s Cloth Insignia of the NSDAP and SA shows this tab on page 35 in the upper right hand corner. He identifies it as an Orts level tab with twisted piping. (It looks a lot like the tabs on your tunic, but you can’t tell because he does not use color on the image.)

I don’t think the white twisted piping flies either.
The twisted stuff was long out of circulation/use when the Kreis level changed from black piped to white piping in 1939…..so I think the tabs and piping was added later by someone who did not know what they were doing.

The piping on the tabs appear to be badly faded blue. Look at the pic of the back of the tab. You can clearly see some of the blue still there. No idea why they are more faded than the piping on the collar.

I AGREE. I MISSED THE SECOND SET OF POSTED PICTURES. ON ANOTHER NOTE, THIS TUNIC HAS SILVER BUTTON, WHICH WOULD REQUIRE SILVER LITZE ON THE TABS.

Hello Thanks to Jeff and Bob for the input on the pipping. I guess i'll remove it and return to original form. I remember a deal at the Max show had spools of different pipping. I could restore the tunic or leave it as is. Kirby

The light brown tabs definitely indicate Ortsgruppe level. The piping SHOULD be light blue rayon, just like the collar piping. However, there is an Ortsgruppe tab with silver twist piping pictured in John Angolia's book, "Cloth Insignia of the NSDAP and SA". (Purpose unknown). It is certainly not regulation. The piping on these tabs look MUCH more like silver than gold. Golden-yellow piping WAS worn at the Reich level, but the tabs would be crimson. I believe the wool party armband should have blue piping on both edges.
