Hi Douglas,

Great portraits. Though the beret they wore, like in the wedding shot, looks just plain goofy to me. I'd be embarassed to wear it. The schiffchen or M-43, looked a whole lot better.

Yeah, I could never pull off the beret. I'd look like a total dunce. Some of these guys pull it off, though.

Wasn't the beret like made of steel, with the cloth part fitted over it? Isn't that why it looked so goofy?

I think the crew member on the right had some problems to enter in a assault gun...it is a little bit "large"

Assault Gun crew members

Hi Marco,

I agree with you. The crew member on the right looks a little uncomfortable and out of place. I wonder if he was a crew member or a mechanic? He is armed with a pistol.

It is a microphone.

I thought that it was a microphone, but wasn't sure. I thought a panzer man holding a mic? I wonder what he was doing with a mic? Maybe the photo was taken at a talent contest and he was singing?

Most likely he is a war reporter serving with a panzer unit - especially having the extra touch of signing the photo - sometimes the photographer signs like that but I would bet in this case that he has signed the photo as a presentation - if you can figure out his signature, he probably he had a media career after the war (if he survived).
