Here are the pictures of crewmen of Destroyer Z 29.
Does anyone know what location in Norway?

Are you sure it was the Z29? The Z29 survived the war and was transfered by the British to the USA which scuttled it in 1946 off Jutland. If I read the monument correctly it looks like it is the Z24 and has a 1942 date. The Z24 was sunk by British bombers on August 23, 1944, off Le Verdon (France?). It must have been in an engagement off Norway some time in 1942 where it sustained a large number of casualties which resulted in construction of the memorial.

Looking more closely at the memorial stone, there are the names of two other destroyers written on it. They are the Z7 Hermann Schoemann and the Z16 Friedrich Echholdt.

The Z24 was part of the 8th destroyer flotilla, also called the "Narvik flotilla". After October 1941 it was stationed at Kirkenes and used for unsuccessful operations along the Murmansk coast until the end of 1941 when it returned to Germany from January to March 1942. Z24 was part of the "Zerstorergruppe Arktis" which operated against the convoy PQ 13. In April 1942; Z24, Z25, and the Hermann Schoemann attacked the damaged British cruiser HMS Edinburgh which had been damaged by torpedos from U456, damaging it so severely that it had to be sunk. Unitl mid-1942, Z24 was based in Narvik and was then transfered to France in March 1943 where it was sunk on August 25, 1944, after air attacks by British Beaufighters near Le Verdon (45o31' N, 14o12'E).

The Hermann Schoemann was hit during the engagement with HMS Edinburgh disabeling both turbines. Since it could not be towed back to base it was scuttled by depth charges or torpedos from Z24 on May 2, 1942, in the Barents Sea. All but 8 crew members were saved.

The Friedrich Eckold was sunk by the British cruisers HMS Sheffield and HMS Jamaica. Operating off the northern Norwegian coast it mistook the British cruisers for German battleships and approached closely. It was hit directly amidship and sank within less than two minutes with all crew lost. Position 77o19'N 30o47'E.

I hope that this helps. I would guess that the memorial and graves are either at Narvik or Kirkenes, but that is pure conjecture.

Maybe he meant the men in the photo were crewmembers from the Z29, not that the memorial was dedicated to the Z29. Did the Z29, serve in the Narvik area?

                            Hello,
I guess that the first picture is the funeral of the victims of destroyer's crewmembers at the time of the Spitsbergen bombardment (Operation "Sizilien"), because most pics of this photo grouping of Z29 are taken in around 1943.
Narvik? Tromsø? Bergen? I have absolutely no idea...
