I wonder how many of these men survived the war even?,as we know the LWFD had many heavy losse's in most of the divsions.Comment

It's a MG15 Aircraft machinegun. These were pressed into service in a ground role towards the latter part of the war.

great photos! Did the LWFDs play a major role in the defence of Normandy in 1944? Or were they mainly stationed on the Eastern front?Comment

LWFD were on all fronts in 1944 but most were located in the east fighting the Russians. There was a LWFD in Normandy but it was not a major force in it's defence.
