Why are there so few photos from German death camps during the time administrated by the Germans?

Some really great and touching photos in this thread by the way!!

Treatment of German POW's after the war was bad under all winning armies.
To remind you - how were imprisoned German soldiers of Wehrmacht declared by Eisenhower? Disarmed Enemy Forces - so they could not be under the Geneva convention and as such Geneva convention was non-existent under the Allies as well.

Tom is correct but the main reason is they were hidden because they were not suppose to exist and was not known to a great majority of people ....which why it was a shock to the troops who liberated them and the Germans who were made to view the results. Now saying that I believe the higher levels of Governments mainly American, British, and Russian knew they existed.

In recent years some photo albums of SS Officers have come to light but still do not reflect the inhumanity and cruelty of such death camps but do show some of those who were responsible.

your Dad's shots in posts 1670 & 1671 remind me of the Tangermunde bridge crossings that were filmed. There are several films that were taken at this time and they appear on the links below.

Check out the women wearing black Panzer and Luftwaffe uniforms. Must have been a looted supply depot on the east side of the Elbe????

Unknown German cross in Gold bearer

Text in german on the back:
"Picture taken as prisoner of war. My German cross in Gold was ïmmediately stolen from me when i became POW..."

Camp 18

I know Camp 18 photos has been up on this thread and i think i did battle on ebay with a member or two. Here is the reason i bought the photos from ebay. A fantastic photo of KM POW officers, several rare uboat signatures on the back!

Jun14 - POW Camp Lordsburg Mai 1945. What is interesting about this portrait is that this LW Oberfeldwebel has added the eagle and shoulder boards to a US Army Khaki shirt.
