Here's one of my soldbücher that has a portrait photo which shows a m44 tunic in wear, this one to a stalingrad veteran who served with schw.art.abt.(mot.)733, an independent artillery unit equipped with enormous 21cm mörsers. On 03.october 1942, s.art.abt.733 was attached to the 24.panzer-division and participated in a massive bombardment and attack of the barrikady gun factory, and bender was one of the crew members servicing the massive 21 inch guns that day.

Thanks very much Glenn and Rob, really amazing images that suggest that the M-44 was issued more widely than generally believed. Here is a portrait of an older inductee with the simple notation "1945":

This shot shows the M-44 from head to toe (notice the flapped pockets of the M-44 trousers):

I'm happy to contribute to this nice topic!

Reason that not much photo evidence of the M44 tunic in wear surfaces is IMO due to the fact that the M44 tunic initially was a combat tunic and not intended for walking out purposes + the fact of course that towards the end of the war happy photo moments became much more scarce.

This IMO very interesting image I recently posted in the Police Forum. In this late '45- '46(?) photo of Berlin Police clearly can be identified the wear of Pol M42/M43 and above all M44 tunics! All seem to be of the same colour, i.e. Police green. Clear evidence as well of the shortage of uniformed clothing straight after the conflict.
To my knowledge there aren't many photo's showing M44 Polizei, I only know of one other post war shot.

I agree 100%. A nice M44 is on my list of wants for this year.

I just like to mention that Glenn posted many of my images taken from one of my photo threads. Very seldom do you see photos showing the M44 in wear.

Generally a great majority are Army issue M44's being shown. I have a Luftwaffe issue M44 in my collection which was purchased by me directly from the widow of the wearer at a flea market in Neumarkt, Germany for 50 DM. I have never seen a photo of one in wear.

Very nice photos being posted by others on this thread.

                            Bill

This Thread is a great Idea. Here is my Contribution, Oblt from Pz.Gren.Rgt.108 awarded D.K.G. January, 27th 1944. He is still living nowadays.</P>
