    M-44 tunics in wear

Many collectors believe the M-44 tunic, while interesting, was seldom issued and worn in service. I believe these tunics saw more service than what is commonly believed and hope other members will contribute period photos of the M-44 in wear (not necessarily limited to Heer as the Luftwaffe, Polizei, and SS as well as others also produced M-44s). Here are several portraits of the M-44 in wear.

Here is a Feldwebel who is an Offizieranwarter and has already upgraded his eagle to an officer quality in anticipation of his promotion. This M-44 may be made of Italian gabardine but the print is not clear enough to be certain.

Here are two portraits which don't show much of the tunics but enough to distinguish them as M-44s:

This Grenadier poses with a civilian (brother, friend?). The M-44 was often worn with a turtleneck sweater:

Great thread, guys! The M44 tunic is my favorite German service uniform (well, second only to black and field gray wraps ) and I too believe that it saw more use than many care to believe.

Here's one of my Soldbücher that has a portrait photo which shows a M44 tunic in wear, this one to a Stalingrad veteran who served with schw.Art.Abt.(mot.)733, an independent artillery unit equipped with enormous 21cm Mörsers. On 03.October 1942, s.Art.Abt.733 was attached to the 24.Panzer-Division and participated in a massive bombardment and attack of the Barrikady gun factory, and Bender was one of the crew members servicing the massive 21 inch guns that day.

                            Glen, OSS - super photos!!!
