I wonder if this Alfons Stegmaier is the one who was awarded with the Deutsches Kreuz, from 2./SS Panzerjäger 2 who got at least 25 kills with his Stug III.

Just to know a bit how widespread this name is in Germany I had a look into the list of the Volksbund and I found only 3 Alfons Stegmaier KIA - I also found 5 Alfons Stegmaier in the recent German phone book. So you can say it's a pretty seldom name in Germany. It could be the guy you thouhgt.

Thanks again for the effort.
It is at least 100% sure that the Alfons Stegmaier who was depicted on my photo was in the SS, since he is wearing a SS tunic on it, unfortunatly I can't scan the photo now.
