A Quick question about German to English Translation

      Hello,
I'm fairly new to this forum and not sure if I am doing this correctly.
I have recently started collecting Feldpost letters and covers and I need a bit of advice. I have a website that can, more often than not, identify the unit associated with a Feldpost number, but the description is in German, which I do not speak or read. Can anyone tell me what the word Stab means as in "Stab II Infanterie-Regiment 172"? Google translate gives Stab as Rod. What is a Stab?
      Thanks in anticipation.
      John

" Wenn vor mir ein feindlicher Panzer erscheint, dann Vollgas geben! und ran an den Feind.

                          Note in a mapcase

                          Hi Guys,

Found this piece of paper folded in one small compartment of my mapcase. Can any one of you make out what it says in German and translated to English? Thanks for your time!
