    # 385

This is part of a letter of the famous German poet Rainer Maria Rilke. He wrote the letter 23 April 1903 to a close friend Franz Xaver Kappus.

    Rainer Maria Rilke
    Ostern 1943 - Easter 1943

As the text is very "poetic/lyric" I have some problems to translate it.

That's very interesting Gerdan, thanks. Too bad the nurse didn't identify herself.

        Hi Gerdan,

Were you able to make out what it said on the back of the Iron Cross winners photo?

Thanks for the translation Gerdan. It doesn't make sense to me either.

I think it says "Ost" (East).

                poem

He's a casual shot at the poetry..."to be human doesn't mean reckoning and counting; maturing like a tree that doesn't hurry its sap along and confident in the storms of spring without fear that afterwards summer might not come. It will come. But it only comes to those who are patient, who are there as though eternity were lying before them, quietly and without cares. I learn it daily, learn it through sorrow to which I am thankful: patience is everything!

                  Poetry

                  Hi,

Thanks for the poetry translation. As to the EKII photo, even if it says Ost - East, and I do think you're right about that, it still doesn't make much sense.

I agree with you. Even if we would read "Ost" / East the text "sind vor Ost" does not make any sense
