the dedication reads: Dir lieber Hans zum Andenken an deinen Kameraden Addy (short for Adolf) For you my dear Hans - in remembrance, Addy

Wow, that's great! Thanks! This one was sitting on the Estand forever. I got it for a fair price, and did not even know it had any writing on it. It was the MG34 gunner that I had origianally agreed to buy from the seller, and then worked a deal for this one too. Glad I did. This is my second private portrait of a Knight's cross winner. The other one is signed also, and can be seen in this thread. Does this site you posted a link to have all the winners there? Too bad it's all in German.

Steve, he actually signed it with Adolf (not Addy) I made the correction.

Super photo, coming directly from the KC winner - doesn't get any better then that.

I'm really glad I picked it up. It will go nicely in my collection, and with my other signed RK photo. Thanks for the help. I'll get some new ones up soon.

Thanks Bill. I believe I have one CEF photo here somewhere. If I find it I'll post it. I also have a nice Newfoundland Regiment portrait from a man who fought at Beumont Hamel.

Here's the Canadian picture I have. I could be wrong and it may not be CEF. The postcard was done in Canada. Maybe you can tell me more.

This one I am more sure about. This is the Newfoundland Regiment portrait. He was a CEF member and a British Mediterranean Expeditionary force member also. It's Christopher Bertram Dicks, Regiment No. 33. Wounded at Beaumont Hamel, July 1, 1916. Retired March 31, 1919.

I have this picture framed and on a table in my bedroom. Here in Newfoundland, this regiment, it's men and the sacrafices they made in the Great War, especially Beaumont Hamel are still held in the highest esteem. The memorabilia from this era is impossible to find. I got this from a local collector who has a huge collection of Regiment items. He has a duplicate of this postcard shot, only signed my the man himself.

A DRK nurse. A little smaller than postcard size. Not easy to find.

Here's a goodie. A German Cross winner set of two postcard portraits. I have his name somewhere, but can't find it right now. Does it get more hardcore than than wearing a steel combat helmet to your own wedding? Great shot.

The second shot of the above man with his bride. Too bad his German Cross is hidden. Nice parade mount EK2.

Thanks for postung the CEF shots. Yes the artillermen are Canadian, nice early shot with seven button tunics, nice winter caps.

THe Newfoundland shot is super. Like your friend, I had the pleasure/honor of interviewing some Canadian WWI vets in the 80's. Also like your friend, was able to have a friend reproduce some of the photos, which were autographed.

                              Cheers

Thanks Bill. You are lucky to have spoken with these vets. My collector friend has a superbe collection of NL regiment. The signed photos he has are all period items too. Another friend of mine actually wrote a book in which he interviewed Newfoundland WW2 vets. It's a great book, and important as thier numbers are thinning every year.
