Do you have the histories of the 1 and 4 divisions? I don't so am pretty sparse on detailed info.

The grave marker dated 11 Sept 41 could help pin down which division of Kübler's XXXXIX Gebirgs korps this is. The guy's entry on the volksbund database gives his place of death as Nikolaijewka. I know the 1 GD was in the area around late august but i think the division had moved forward by then with the 4 GD hanging back.

      Servus Simon,

Yes, I do have the histories from both the Edelweiss and Enzian Divisions...I'll check tonight when I get home and see if we can figure out which one the album belongs to.

Thank you all for the compliments and especially the very informative replies.

There are no other names or places which could help identify the unit. As you will have seen, there are no captions and the photos are glued in.

As a thank you for all your help, here's five more photos.

Another shot of the Jägerbart ceremony. Note the Uffz. is holding a stick with markings.

This goes to prove they were indeed Gebirgspioniere. Note the use of the GJ cap on the left.

And a nice shot to finish with. A sidecar has just brought some good food. The decorated senior NCO holding the Kwatta chocolates is wearing the Steuermann ("Qualified helmsman for engineer assault boats") patch

I'm afraid the quality was not that good... those were Dutch chocolates
Well, still better than Ukrainian dust, I guess!
