This specimen, said to have been in Goering's possession, is being auctioned by HH in November 2017 with a starting price of €70,000.
Interestingly, this badge has been marked by the maker with the letter "V" in several places. This same mark has been used on other examples and the explanation is that the mark "V" belonged to the person who assembled the badge, rather than it being number "5" in the small batch being produced.
Also of interest is the fact that these later badges were made of 14K White Gold and not Platinum.
Dimensions stated: Wings 65mm; Wreath 41.3; Weight 42.7g.
The reverse of the wreath on this example is polished although it appears matt in the photo.

Anybody know what happened to Kastner-Kirdorf's award?
I have a grouping from a 101st AB fellow who was the first to examine the body of Kastner-Kirdorf after he committed suicide. He was clever enough to take his pistol lying on the floor, but didn't take any of his medals or badges. Perhaps he was wearing the PO with diamonds at the time. Wonder if the badge was buried with him.

Hi all,
very interesting thread ! Need a data base like this one.
original badge is a very exclusive piece in only few collections.
Here is my "große Verleihungsmappe mit Kassette", maybe of Karl Doenitz...
Kassette outside both side are covered by a very soft light brown leatherLast edited by IVAN; 01-01-2019, 08:37 AM.
