800 Silver Luftwaffe Badges - Purpose of?

Being a novice in the Lufty field I am curious to know what the purpose was of the 800 sillver Luftwaffe award badges.

Were these made by the manufacturer in limited numbers as a private purchase piece for those that could afford it?

If that is the case then were all the awards available in silver 800

    Regards Rob.

These things. This one's in '800' silver and you can buy it on the internet for $49.95.

OK, it might not fool the experts, but it would fool many newer collectors.

The market is flooded with these things. Para badges, glider badges, observer badges......... you name it, they've done it in '800' silver.

In fact, '800' silver is dirt cheap. It wouldn't even qualify for a hallmark (minimum 925) in the UK.

              Robin,

you clearly do not believe in authentic 800 silver badges, or not?

Maybe you would care to read these threads:

I can see no reason to doubt these. What do you base your opinion on?

I had (now sold) a bordfunker badge by Juncker marked "800".

I have no trouble with badge own by Skip's badge.

Hi Francois Have you any knowledge why these badges where made, private purchase from a jeweller or from the original manufacturer.Brought by people with a little bit of extra cash maybe, but not awarded.Im interested because some I have seen I believe to be right so this is an interesting thread.Regards Joey
