I was thinking it was original central barrel because of the gaps, but I do see what you are saying about the thickness being a bit different. However, it sometimes appears like this when the barrels aren't aligned properly. If Alex was to rotate the pin back closed, the barrels may align better. Only way to tell is to rotate and see. If it is indeed thicker than the outer barrels, then I think you are right and they are different tubes used.
I don't understand your question about the hingepin? But like Mike says, its extra length does seem a bit odd for a Juncker badge, but its not excessive if you look at the overall reverse shot IMO.
