My trip to Europe was rather successfull Want to show my best purchase and ask your opinions about the catch and hinge of the badge. I'm quite confused that the hinge pin is moving very easily...

Hello there,
What a superb example of this badge. Do you think the hinge pin is original to the badge?

Hi Alex,
Perfectly nice original, with some great character.
Hinge and catch are perfectly fine IMO. The central barrel of the hinge moves quite a bit because Juncker used the exact same piece of tube that they cut out from the center. The gaps on either side of the central barrel are the same width as the saw that was used to cut it out. After it was cut out, the pin was soldered to it, it was blackened and then slid back into place in the middle of the hinge and all attached with the hingepin.
Personally, I like to see this on Juncker badges

Hi,
I agree, it's a nice badge, but I think Alex has just cause in asking about the hinge and possibly the catch as well.
Looking at his good pics, imo the hinge is unusually "sloppy" - ie there is a lot of room between the central segment and the 2 outer segments - and the hinge pin is unusually long (which is imo NOT typical for early Junckers). Further, the main pin looks brand new but the rest of the badge looks quite worn.
Re the catch, there does appear to be an unusual blob of dark solder under the catch sitting in a silvered "rim". Compare the catch solder to the hinge solder - different.
Imo there's a decent possibility that the hinge-pin and main pin are replacements on this example. There's a remote possibility that the catch is an old repair.

Hi Tom
I agree with you that this is indeed a Juncker barreled-pin, but I do not think that it is the center-piece from the hinge that has been used in this case?
The Pin barrel seems to be thicker than the hinge barrels from the images.
What makes you think that Juncker used the cut-out barrel for the hinge-pin? Interesting.
Best Regards
Karsten
