Das Fliegererinnerungs-abz.
To who it may be of any use here are my personal findings on this extremely rare, but sad looking bird.
First of all there is NO doubt if this badge existed or not.
It was introduced on 26.may 1936. And there is a picture of it in the wartime book of Dr.Doehle.
I will only dicuss the C.E.Juncker produced badges, in buntmetall or in aluminium.
C.E.Juncker has produced two slightly different types of this badge ( and I don't mean the cut, or non-cut out legs).
The first type is rather flat produced badge, with less detail on the chest of the eagle and typical here is " the dot" representing the eye of the eagle. Also the eye brow on this badge type has an angeled look.
This type is shown in Detlev's book on page 518,and in Dr.Doehle's book on page 115.
No doubt on this type consernig originality.
The second type( and I believe of a slightly later date of production), is a little thicker, with a much more detailed eagle chest and whreath. Here you got also a more detailed eye, and an eye brow without the angle in the curvature.
This type is posted by Bill Stump in a buntmetal version, and by me in an other thread in the extremely rare aluminium version.
The originality is unquestionable of this type.
I have personaly seen and handled 2 of the first type and a few of the second type, and of this second type only one in aluminium.
These are my personal findings on this rare badge. It's very rare to find one but there are surviving examples of it in collections, documented or not.
Today there are very close copies on the marked but compared to known originals the miss the Juncker feeling....
Pieter.
