I believe I did already explain you the circumstances about my selling, but I believe you dont understand what I was trying to say.

One again, discuss the goblet and not the price. Once again PLEASE !

Agreed. As long as no one is discussing the price on your actual e-stand sales thread, price discussion is fair game in this forum.

              Hi,

The pricing of items for sale, particularly when viewed as high, has always been a topic of heated debate on the forums. As has been mentioned many times before it is the sellers perogative to set a price. If everyone thinks the price is too high then they don't have to buy the item and the seller can lower the price or keep the piece.

I, for one, think this is a very fair price. As I mentioned in my previous comment in this thread, $8500 for an honor goblet to an RK/DKiG recipient is quite a fair price. I actually think he could get more, perhaps up to $10K. I can count on one hand the number of RK attributed goblets I have seen for sale in the past year or so. Look on other dealer sites, at shows or in miltiary stores and one will see that the asking price for a "regular" Alpaca goblet is between mid $3K to upper $4K and sometimes $5K.

Just because he bought it at a bargain price does not require him to sell it at a bargain price. By that reasoning if any of you find a nice RK at a garage sale for $50 and decide to sell it I would imagine that you would be a great person and sell it for $75. I know you would not want to get market value for the piece and instead would want to pass on the savings to another collector.

If he were asking a ridiculous price for the item than discuss it, but the fact that he is asking, what I beleive to be, market value on a piece that he just happened to get a good deal on warrants no further discussion.

As an aside I do not know the seller and have nothing to gain by being an advocate of his pricing. If I had the money I would have bought this piece from Peter or MDJ.

                What is going on here???

If I find an original Bandenkampf on a fleemarket for a penny, I not going to sell it for 2 pennies on e-stand. I will try to get the best price off course. So I can buy some more nice LW badges for my collection.

This is a very strange discussion here. People will pay the price they find fair to pay or they will not buy. Simple as that.

                  Interesting thread.

In every deal the selling price is agreed to by both parties and is freely paid by the buyer. It doesn't really matter what the seller initially paid for it. At the time of the sale the buyer percieves a reasonable value in the item and therefore buys it. That's basic business. It happens all the time. Besides, who says it's a rule that you can't sell something for a profit shortly after you buy it?

I bought a KC at the SOS for a great price. I was offered about double my money within a few minutes after I bought it. I declined the offer. What does that make me? An altruistic fool who doesn't want to turn a profit? Not by any means. I like profit as much as all of you, whether you admit it or not. In this case I chose to be a collector first as I wanted that KC for my collection. While I appreciated the generous offer, I declined as genuine KCs are getting tough to find at a reasonable price these days.

I also know I can always sell it for a tidy profit when I decide to do so. Is there a problem with that?

                  Tony

I totally agree. Of course I guess we can expect some great (cheap) prices when some people decide to sell their old collections right?????

I have no dog in this hunt, but i am surprised the gurus at the Guild didn't do their homework and advise the owner, if only to maximize their profits when it was sold..

One of the things that is worrisome to collectors seeing the prices asked, is that the thought creeps into their head that the average collector of modest means will never attain a piece like this as they are priced out of the game.

Granted, this piece is for the more advanced collector, but it is price creep (and its resultant trickle down effect) that scares away new collectors, who find that even a collection of badges will result in an investment of thousands of dollars..

I know i am not in the minority when i say that in 15 years, there will be a drastic influx of items on the market, from retired or deceased collectors..all available at more depressed prices as there will be a very small pool of interested parties wanting to buy them.

Collector interest in the 20 somethings is very small. There may well be a winfall for the collectors who are interested, as they will have their pick at reasonable prices..time will tell..

My thoughts also.., it's a matter of time and what is gained now will be lost when nobody wants the stuff anymore..
Many are running already, but the show goes on.. , just cranck up the prices every week and enjoy the good feeling..., but one day it'll end for many..

So flipping an item for double the price in one week is perfectly acceptable? I guess the next time I sell an item, I will just ask for the maximum possible price and not try to give other collectors a good deal based on the investment I have in a piece. I have done this in the past, but will stop doing it now, as it is apparently not a good thing to do. If a "collector" was going to flip an item one week later, I would have hoped that they would have just left it alone for another collector to buy who would have actually kept the item. Call me dumb, but I saw that very same goblet probably in the first hour it appeared on Collectors Guild, recognized it was a great deal, but did not buy it because I already have a few goblets to RK holders. I had hoped that it would have gone to a collector who would have kept it. I guess I was a little shocked to see that the purpose of the purchase was just to turn a profit.

How dumb is this? He buys he sells, so what.
You didn't buy so no need to trash this fellow because he recognized a deal and moved on it.
I think he was very smart to do so.

I don't have a dog in this fight, so it is just my opinion. I think the key is that Martin stated upfront that after purchasing this piece an offer more to his collecting interests came his way and he had to make a choice.

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with his listing. As has been mentioned, if you are fortunate to purchase an item at a significantly reduced price, does that mean when the time comes to sell it that you should undercut yourself because of your original good fortune ? What about duplicates ? Should we cast an evil eye towards those who have numerous pieces of a particular item which in turn makes it harder for those of us who don't have one ?

Anyone care to sell me a 64 1/2 Mustang at the original sticker price ????? I'll pay cash !!!!!!!

Martin got a great deal on a great piece. His asking price is in line with what the "collector market" has deemed appropriate.

Then again, it's just my .02 cents........ which unfortunately for us in the US isn't even worth .02 cents anymore
