    My guy RK before being shot down;

    Werner Stumpf joined the Luftwaffe in 1935, he participated in the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain. During the Battle of Britain he claimed his first two victories. Stumpf then participated in Operation Barbarossa, during which he claimed another 23 victories. In late 1941 he participated in the Siege of Malta where he claimed 6 more victories. During the North African Campaign he added another 17 to his total. He was awarded the Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross on 13 August 1942. On 13 October 1942 he was killed by anti-aircraft fire near El Alamein.

    Killed just a couple weeks after Marseille, in Afrika, and not far from where Hans Joachim went down.

    At the time of his death he was the TOP scorer in JG53, Pik As.

      da möchte ich Dich zu Deinem Pokalträger beglückwünschen.
      Eine sehr interessante Abschussliste, die Werner Stumpf aufweisen kann.
      Leider ist es mir nicht möglich das Verleihungsdatum des Ehrenpokals ausfindig zu machen. Es wäre schön wenn noch Angaben über die Gravur auf dem Pokal erscheinen würden.

          Now that is the kind of goblet I would love to own!!!!! It's the story behind the goblet, whether silver or alpaca, that determines how desirable a goblet would be to own, and hence price. And this one is TOPS!

            Thank You, Brian! I am in no way intending to use this thread as a sales promotion, but since the readers here are all sharing the same interest, I would like to let you know that I have uploaded a photo of every single document in this, indeed fantastic, grouping. I have had many Goblet groupings, to DKiG recepients, to an RK recipient, and even to an RK+Oaks winner who never received a DKiG. This is by far the most complete and in a way most interesting one.

            One should also keep in mind that not all theaters of operations were treated equally, not even all areas within the same theater of operation were treated equally, not all LW jobs were treated equally, not all individuals were treated equally, etc.... Add timing into the mix, and you really have a "collector's challenge" figuring out what grouping is the best, the mint one, the RK one, and so on and so forth...

            If this good old Observer had done half of what he did a year earlier, or on the Western Front, or if he had become a fighter pilot (the pop stars of their time) they would have given him an RK... But this is not how it worked out for him, so he ended up in a place where even fighter aces were writing to their wives from, complaining that they were not treated equally when it came to awards...

            Please keep this in mind when you assess a grouping...

                              Is there any proof, such as iron clad provenance, that the Moelders goblet isn't just a tarted up piece? Why would Hitler's signature be on a relatively low award?
