    Neil,

Thanks for the great JMME photo essay. Looks like the bottom line is since the JMME guys utilized Juncker components (for the most part), they had a lot of time on their hands to 'decorate' the final product. Many variations.

That's as good a theory as any!

I don't know what it is about JMME Luftwaffe badges, but they really fascinate me

      Neil

      Edit

Perhaps the other JMME pilot owners could post their badges?(JTW,Frank,Jan Arne)...maybe in a separate thread if more appropriate.

        Guys,
Was JMME really buying parts from Juncker? Or maybe they just got dies from the same source…

Not a badge for my collection...

Looks cast to me. Don't like the hinge, rivets, color of the metal.

                Thanks
                Does anybody recognise it?
I normally name and source my reference files, but this one was only titled 'jmmepb' with no name to the current owner.

Personally I don't like these 'all silver' badges from IMME. I'm also not a fan of the 'J3' so my choice from the list goes to the 'J2'.

To Neil, All1knew, Robert 60446 (whateverthehellthatnumbermeans!), T.C., Jos, & Rich (hey, didn't you used to go by 'Richy', as your old Log-On???)

OK, see, now we are getting some good opinions. I was originally under the impression that JMMEs were always all silber. In the last couple of years, JMMEs have been surfacing with the oxidized eagle. And the ones with the blackened eagle were authentic strikes. But black. I was also under the impression that these JMMEs, with 60 years of interaction with the elements, developed a greenish hue (for lack of a better definition).

                    So you tell me!

Don't want to sidetrack the topic with a variable, but here is an IMME P/O. Most likely the dies are identical. So we can at least compare the strikes.

                    Regards,
                    Mark

PS - The original gilting is on this thing. A nice deep finish.

He Flew 262's. I am fortunate to have a large grouping of his. Uniforms, Paper, and his .835 Honor Salver.

IMME's I saw had the nickle silver/goldish,sometimes quite yellow hue..

Jos, by stretching the imagination and the color palatte, green....... yellow, they share some of the same basic colors. I will try to find images of what I'm talking about. It might be tough. It sounds like you seem to agree, that they do normally fade from silver?

Silver on silver may be more typical for JMME, but IMHO the lightly burnished eagle on silver wreath in post #8 screams classic period Luftwaffe pilot badge ... yummy .

                            Jos,

Best I can find in a 'Search'. These badges were from Yuri,Ivan, and J Temple-West. The color appears to go yellow-green, probably depends on the lighting conditions under which the images were captured.

I'd agree on the black finished JMME being a copy. Look at the porous back of the eable.

On the green...I suspect that could be verdigris starting to form, especially on that Niemann badge.

My JMME pilot from the SOS. I think my scanner is going bad, it doesn't really capture the true color, the greenish tone, that I have seen on many JMME's.
