I am unaccustomed to being " caught out" and it's not a great feeling, I am usually extremely cautious and do almost all buying on line checking out in advance of making a purchase.
This was bought more with the eyes and not with the brain, 350 euros the cost of not sticking to my own rules and checks - buying outside of my own comfort zone.
Thanks for the heads up gents , when I got home and had a look at reference books (Weber & Skora) I had my doubts - one is better knowing .
Will go back to the dealer and see what they are willing / unwilling to do.

Reflecting on my own recent experience I found this thread which has some sound advice in it.
Comparing and contrasting with the period example was certainly enlightening.

I got a refund from the dealer on this item, the gent who confirms items are period for this firm is of the view this piece is a period item.
Given the views of collectors given here and having looked at modern reference books ( which made me think there was a problem in the first instance) , I am inclined to disagree with his opinion .

That's almost correct. All makers' Blockade Breaker badges had 7 portholes except for the Steinhauer & Lück version (upon which the "Cave Creek" fake being discussed here was based).
All the others (Schwerin, Meybauer, Deumer, Mayer, Foerster & Barth and A.G.M.u.K.) had 7 portholes in that second row from the bottom.

Norm , I did consider that but did not expect the " expert" to say he was wrong, I think they need a new " expert".
( Misplaced faith on their part and no doubt a good wee earner for their " expert").
If anything this thread serves a number of purposes , one to show the stark difference between a period and a reproduction badge and more importantly to show the pit falls of letting heart ruling your head.
For my party an error of judgement I will not be repeating.
