    Unfortunately a common fake.

Norm , thank you for your view, I really should have been more careful, better knowing. Ah sh1t, should have known better. Will contact and see if I can get my money back , first time caught out. Lesson learned.

I am unaccustomed to being " caught out" and it's not a great feeling, I am usually extremely cautious and do almost all buying on line checking out in advance of making a purchase.
This was bought more with the eyes and not with the brain, 350 euros the cost of not sticking to my own rules and checks - buying outside of my own comfort zone.
Thanks for the heads up gents , when I got home and had a look at reference books (Weber & Skora) I had my doubts - one is better knowing .
Will go back to the dealer and see what they are willing / unwilling to do.

              You hoped correctly John .
The reverse patterns do not match , at best they are similar , Eduardo pointed out to me in an email that the second row from bottom porthole count is wrong , should be seven , it is only six.

That makes Norm and I happy.

All of that and you need to look no further than the font in a side by side comparison with a period example.

This example is a very common fake from the same source.

Reflecting on my own recent experience I found this thread which has some sound advice in it.
Comparing and contrasting with the period example was certainly enlightening.

Is it safe to assume that all maker examples of the blockade runners badge have 7 portholes on the second row from the bottom? At a recent gun show I viewed an unmarked badge with a needle pin that had 6 portholes.

I got a refund from the dealer on this item, the gent who confirms items are period for this firm is of the view this piece is a period item.
Given the views of collectors given here and having looked at modern reference books ( which made me think there was a problem in the first instance) , I am inclined to disagree with his opinion .

Well, you can direct him to this thread. All he or anyone has to do is a simple side-by-side comparison with an original Schwerin to see the differences between this common fake and an original.

                          Best regards,
                          ---Norm

                            Hi Mark,

That's almost correct. All makers' Blockade Breaker badges had 7 portholes except for the Steinhauer & Lück version (upon which the "Cave Creek" fake being discussed here was based).

All the others (Schwerin, Meybauer, Deumer, Mayer, Foerster & Barth and A.G.M.u.K.) had 7 portholes in that second row from the bottom.

                            Best regards,
                            ---Norm

Norm , I did consider that but did not expect the " expert" to say he was wrong, I think they need a new " expert".
( Misplaced faith on their part and no doubt a good wee earner for their " expert").
If anything this thread serves a number of purposes , one to show the stark difference between a period and a reproduction badge and more importantly to show the pit falls of letting heart ruling your head.
For my party an error of judgement I will not be repeating.
