I am unaccustomed to being " caught out" and it's not a great feeling, I am usually extremely cautious and do almost all buying on line checking out in advance of making a purchase.
This was bought more with the eyes and not with the brain, 350 euros the cost of not sticking to my own rules and checks - buying outside of my own comfort zone.
Thanks for the heads up gents , when I got home and had a look at reference books (Weber & Skora) I had my doubts - one is better knowing .
Will go back to the dealer and see what they are willing / unwilling to do.Comment

The reverse patterns do not match , at best they are similar , Eduardo pointed out to me in an email that the second row from bottom porthole count is wrong , should be seven , it is only six.Comment

All of that and you need to look no further than the font in a side by side comparison with a period example.
This example is a very common fake from the same source.

Is it safe to assume that all maker examples of the blockade runners badge have 7 portholes on the second row from the bottom? At a recent gun show I viewed an unmarked badge with a needle pin that had 6 portholes.Comment

I got a refund from the dealer on this item, the gent who confirms items are period for this firm is of the view this piece is a period item.
Given the views of collectors given here and having looked at modern reference books ( which made me think there was a problem in the first instance) , I am inclined to disagree with his opinion .Comment

Well, you can direct him to this thread. All he or anyone has to do is a simple side-by-side comparison with an original Schwerin to see the differences between this common fake and an original.

Norm , I did consider that but did not expect the " expert" to say he was wrong, I think they need a new " expert".
( Misplaced faith on their part and no doubt a good wee earner for their " expert").
If anything this thread serves a number of purposes , one to show the stark difference between a period and a reproduction badge and more importantly to show the pit falls of letting heart ruling your head.
For my party an error of judgement I will not be repeating.Comment
