      Hi,
U-boat clasp in silver is known fake unfortunately. It is known as 'A over C fake'.
      Cheers,
      Hubert

I agree with Hubert, the U-Boat clasp is an obvious fake. The images of the RK U-boat badge are inadequate to make a call but the colour is strange. You need proper photos in natural light of both obverse and reverse and closeups of the catch and hinge to get a useful opinion on these since they're a favourite target of fakers.

The CCC should be posted in the Heer section for an opinion.

        Best regards,
        ---Norm

I just noticed that Mike (waffendude) already posted better photos of the CCC in the Heer section: http://wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/s...d.php?t=911020

Is the reason the clasp is a fake because it is in tombac and the letters on the reverse has been evened out?

In other words the reproduction is better than the original?

              Hi Gary,

Yes, the lettering is the biggest giveaway -- not only because of the evenness but also because the rows of the letters are aligned differently from originals. And as you say, the base metal is incorrect - neither zinc nor Tombak. Also the catch "crimp" is a sham and the catch is actually soldered into a cast crimp mound.

You can see more details on this type of fake here:

and there are examples in the Fakes Gallery as well.

              Best regards,
              ---Norm

From these photos, the RK U-boat badge looks okay but the cast-in hinge block is cracked. Not sure if that will be stable for opening the pin. Best to inquire first and ask for for a pin-open photo if considering purchasing it.

No surprises with the U-Boat clasp though -- still a fake.

                    Best regards,
                    ---Norm
