Here's one previously posted by Dion in 2009 which is strange since it lacks the date "1940" on the obverse, and yet looks like identical construction with the same pin system.

The same grouping with the unawarded document fragment and the pin lacking the "1940" date has made it into Weitze's latest update but no longer includes the large plaque from back in 2009, and since that time an EK2 ribbon has been added.

When you compare it to AH's pin, you can see that it's not that the "1940" was ground off; there are several small differences in detail indicating a different die. That variant without the date is still something of a mystery.

These show up in a bewildering number of sizes and variations for a single KM unit (the Küstensicherungsverband Norwegische Westküste). Here's yours next to the one posted by Albert, purportedly from Bartels estate but with no dimensions. And for comparison below that the larger plaque previously posted by Dion.

Here's another in the same format as Terrence's, but without the engraved lettering. 60 mm tall, crudely cast in aluminum. No provenance. Perhaps for sewing on the cap (but a bit big for that)?

This is the book on the Tigerverband by Kapitänleutnant Hans Bartels, published in Berlin in 1941. It seems like he was a master of self-promotion.

Hi all! Here's one more award document related to Stabsobergefreiter(???) Curt Baller.
The doc was found in envelope that it was sent in to his family. Really nice condition. Even a piece of paper that was sticked on "kaleu" sign is kept.
