Thanks to Norm, the following threads pertain to this type of carton. I was clearly mistaken about these cartons with this clasp, so glad to have been corrected. John
That said, I still think that before any badge/clasp is purchased, you should get a pin down shot. The reason is that while the badge/clasp might be period, the pin could have been replaced. You just do not know.
In any case, clasp in hand by Bob, it is clearly an outstanding set that makes this one very special.
Thanks John!
I do agree, most everything I buy I approach as being fake until I can reason it is oriignal. The reason I felt this one had a chance is it came from a non collector source with a cased with carton "minty" EKI. That was as real as they get and figured it was worth pursuing.
Thanks again for all of your help!
Bob
I think this type of box is common to at least Schwerin. My boxed Schwerin uboat and sboat badges both have this type of box and tissue paper. Interestingly the size of the tissue paper in each is exactly the same. I think that they would either have a roll or large sheets of the stuff and just cut off what they need to wrap the badge in before sticking it in the box or (as I now think) they may have had a stack of pre cut sheets of the paper kind of like lens paper or lab wipes and just grab a piece off the top to wrap each medal in. I can't remember what they measured off the top of my head but it could be another parameter to look at when purchasing if others find the same size with theirs.
