This clasp looks like a beautiful original 2nd pattern to me...I dont know anything about the box and have never even seen one before but from what I see it looks good but I could be wrong.

            U-boat Clasp

            Hi RonR,
The clasp is good. The box looks fine, but I can't really say if it is just for the U-boat clasp. I once saw a similar box being used for a Heer Close Combat Clasp.

            Regards,
            Jody

Nice badge but not sure if matched to the box, it looks very tight/too small length wise

The only box I'm aware of is the brown card stapled cornered type for these........and they hard very very seldom encountered.

Sure you have all seen other combat bades in this sort of box ie no writing like a sort of gift box for lack of better words and if its made for this badge then you would expect it to fit well.I might well be wrong but would myself be happy to find this badge in this box.

                    Hello,
I guess the question is this the correct box for such an item. I agree the box is cool looking, but did such a clasp come with it? For example, when I was a kid they used to sell in original boxes with the same sort of fancy lid and box design, Infantry and Panzer badges. I now see those same boxes housing KM badges on a few dealer sites. With that you have a situaton of real award, real box, but do they really go together? IMO, no they don't.

I guess it is up to the individual tastes of the collector to decide if they are happy or not with such a combination.

                    Regards,
                    Jody

I have seen and owned such boxes but then for a Luftwaffe flight clasp without the inlet i think that is custom made.

Authentic Badge, no question. Maybe a period box, but I don't think a match. As mentioned, the clasp is pushing on the sides of the box, making them bulge just a bit. I don't think the the clasp would have been presented in such a tight box. Just my opinion.

                        Nevertheless, a nice combo!

                        Regards,
                        Mark

Thanks to all for the replies and opinions.

As always, the item must speak for itself, but this is a discussion, and would like to clarify a couple of points.

                          Rob and Mark,

The box is not too small and it may be the photos make it appear so, but there is a very slight space on each end between the Spange and the sides of the box. Greatful for your replies.

                          Jody,

Thank you for your knowlegable replies.

You are right, there are other awards in similar boxes, and I have a few, and have seen, as you have, through the years the wrong badges in these boxes.

This one appears to be made for this badge however.

The Close Combat Bar is larger as shown in these two shots:

Did infact say if you look at my post that I liked the box and would be happy myself to see this badge in this box, think the fit is a good thing and had noted from the pictures that a CCC would not fit in it,Really would be happy to own both items.

                                Hello RonR,
As I said in an earlier thread I saw a similar box, and by that I meant it was not an identical box. I was aware that a CCC is much larger. That being said, if your friend is happy that is great. I do think it is a nice box, it could be for a flight clasp, but it does hold the U-boat clasp, and would make a nice display. As a general rule (at least to me), I have found many of the real KM boxes to be dark blue or just plain cardboard w/simple staples.

On another note, I do really like your silver CCC. Who is the maker?

                                Regards,
                                Jody
