99.99% sure this is a fake - thought I would post it here and get your thoughts. We were cracking up about the feathers on the eagle's chest and legs - looks like a lion! Any insight into where, when, and by who this was made?

I can tell you the pice is not period, but I don't know who made it. I remember pieces like this really started to surface in the mid-80's.

the oak leaf laurel are in poor details.
the eagle - totally wrong. compare with the standard HSF badge
level of finishing for such a high esteemed badge is no way matched with such a level of poor workmanship.

Apparently yes this badge has been awarded:
GENERALADMIRALS OTTO SCHNIEWIND was awarded a FLOTTEN-KRIEGSABZEICHEN MIT BRILLANTEN on Juli 20th 1944.
It's also for sale by Andre Huesken - A cased badge with an award document!Comment

Seems there was a Souval ran a few production runs of these badges in the late 50s
Might of been a way to get around the no-Swaz rule in BR.

Snooping about a little more I discovered that Vizeadmiral Bernhard Rogge was supposed to of received the
Hilfskreuzer-Kriegsabzeichen mit Brillanten
some time in 1940
Again I never knew they awarded such a badge would love to see a pic of the originalComment

It is my understanding that there were no High Seas Fleet badges with diamonds awarded. Nor Minesweeper, Destroyer or Coastal Artillery.
Only the S-boat, U-boat and Auxiliary Cruiser (HSK) badges were awarded in diamonds, typically with an overlarge swaz.
