A number of questions are possed. Why did the French not make insignia for the Americans? Simple there were no Americans in Liberated France. De Gaul was a law unto himself, the liberation of Paris was held up untill a French force could do the job, accompanied by others.

The two companies who produced the badge were badge producers to the Vichy Government. Basquville and Morgon. Why were they produced, I question that still has to be answered. It could be that the Vichy Navy would have come under German controle, this would lead the French navy to use German style badges. Oran ended this possibility. The British fought the Vichy forces in Syria extreemly hard. So a lot of French men were envolved in Fighting the Allies.

Other countrys produced insignia for the Germans, it made sence not to transport items round Europe. Hence the production of SS Insignia in Belgium. Badges were produced in Ceck, and Poland.

So you believe or you do not. The other problem is that these have been copied as well, so you have a further twist in the story.

Wrong the Americans remained in "Liberated France" and then after the war ended they stayed into the 1960's.

Where was the American presence in Liberated France? What capacity did it have? Like Britain, which has American bases, these are prent by invitation. The only soveriege base in Britain is Alconberry, now mothballed, all the other Aire bases are known as RAF - Lakenheath, Bentwaters etc. Thus these bases are subject to British Authority.

Warlord is quite correct. De Gaule managed to gain control of France from the word go and France has, since then, kept its distance from the USA.... and also the UK.

Many locations throughtout France.... one of the largest ports of debarkation for troops leaving the theater was Le Harve, France. Not to mention R&R in Paris and the French Riviera for half of the troops in theater.... every GI photo ablum has a few pictures of the French dames. I know of many who were stationed there after the war into the 1960's not like Germany and Italy but they still had a presence in France. It's a known fact!

There were large numbers of NATO troops (including thousands of Americans) stationed in France until 1966, when France withdrew from NATO's military structure. For example, the headquarters of NATO's Supreme HQ, Allied Powers Europe was located near Paris - and this HQ would have had many US personnel in it ranks.

Quite correct, NATO presence, not American. This is extreemly important. No independent American forces in France.

Hmmmmmmmm..... for the purpose of this thread we actually are speaking of WW2 and the period between 1944 to late 1945 or early 1946. But for agurement sake by your definition there were no "independent American forces in France" or europe after 1949 when NATO was founded. I wish the Russians would have believed that one. I also like how you've changed "no Americans in Liberated France" to "independent American forces in France".... talk abot rewriting history.
