    Hi all

When I saw the last picture (Mike's ), I thought it was my very own badge. It looks a lot to the one I have.

Thanks Mark I will do the cleaning the way you said.

I send two pictures to robert already, let's see if he got them.

    regards

    Edgar

What really has me stumped is the silver ship and the silver reverse. I am used to seeing a blackened reverse on nearly all Schwerin KM badges.

It almost appears the ship and the reverse of the badge at one point was painted or coated silver, although it seems you can see the gilt running around on the reverse as you quite normally see ...

                  Definitely Tomback metal underneath ....

One more picture, this time hardware. First image on the left is from Marc's (Flak88) badge.

A measure of the weight of this badge would definitely answer that question

                          Hi all

I do not have the instrument at hand to weight the badge, sorry.

What is the last conclusion!! Is it a fake or original?

                            Hi,

Edgar, imo you have a nice original and early (sharp reverse deck impression) example, but heavily worn.

Mark, it's possible that extreme heavy polishing could result in a smooth silver appearance rather than the typical matt dark grey. The red on the tombak looks more like heavy reddish copper oxidisation/tarnish (tombak contains copper) rather than some sort of cupal underplating - hard to do the ship but not the wreath! I guess it's always possible that some badges never received the final matt dark grey "treatment".

                            Regards

                              Edgar,

I don't think we have yet, formulated a decisive consensus. It is difficult to make a decision totally based on images. We see some characteristics that we like, and we see some details that has us guessing for an answer.

                              Stay cool!

                                Mike,

I know what you mean about polishing a badge 'down to' silver. But my qustion is, if the badge is made from tombak, which is coppery in color, wouldn't excessive polishing remove the top coat and reveal the tombak color underneath? And if the badge never received the matt black finish, then what would have ever even been polished 'down to' silver? I'm trying to make the theories work, but am still having some questions.

                                Till tomorrow morning,
                                Mark
