Harry if this is nickle silver this is a HUGE find and a first....can you get a closer shot of the hinge area - is it a plate...also I have a silver plated PAB that look very very close to my porsche in appearance, what Im trying to say is there are zink badges that don't look or show zink...

also you can get very accurate digital scales online for under $40 bucks...

Speaking as a Scotsman, why buy scales when you can use the ones at the Post Office (accurate to 1 gramme) here in the UK.

Hi Peter, Our Post Office scales in U.S. are in ounces-you then need a conversion chart, accuracy may be lost

Peter, What are you implying? I know the Scots are frugal but I think the scale would pay for itsself in the gas that you would save. Unless you live next to the post that is.

              Hi Harry

Your badge looks very similar to mine which is heavy nickle plating over a bronze base metal.
Have a close look at the very end of the gun barrel and the heads of the tanks right hand track pins with a 10X loop under good lighting and tell me if you can see any base metal showing through. These are the highpoint areas that are worn on my badge and from the pictures they seem to be worn on your badge as well.
Also can you have a close look at the outside edge of the catch at around the 10 o'clock position and tell me if is has a small flat spot.

              Regards
              Peter

The post office scale weighed it in at .8 ounces, which apparently equals 22.68 grams if my conversion is correct. I don't see any difference in metal at the high points, just looks like polishing. I also do not see the flat spot you mentioned on the catch. The catch, however, does sit on a small catchplate.

                  Hi Harry,

Are you absolutely sure about that. Neither the Kupal nor the zinc Assmanns feature a catchplate. Would be strange to find one on what I would like to consider an earlier variant.

No, I'm not sure Philippe, but it looks like a catch plate to me. What are your thoughts?

                      Hi Harry,

Well it sure looks like one, I don't supose the solder took that shap. Based upon this close-up I'm even more convinced that this is a Nickel silver badges. The material is quite thick just like the nickel silver Wurster which also explains the heavy 22 grams for a hollow badge. All very interesting if it wasn't for the fact that I now have to find one
