    Buntmetall ASSMANN PAB

    Hi guys,

Just need some help here. Is there anybody who thinks (is absolutely confident) that he has a hollow "buntmetall/tombak" Assmann PAB in his collection.

Sometime ago I came to the conclusion that I never ever handled such a badge and now begin to wonder if they exist

If you own such a PAB I really would love to see some pictures.

    Dear Philippe,

Nope; three of mine are Kupal and the other is zinc. I have not handled a Buntmetall one.

          Hi Guys,

Only 3 reactions but when it comes to PAB's already a representative sample

It's the same with me. Handled probably a few dozen Assmann's mostly zinkers and some Kupal variants but never a buntmetall example.

Lets wait for some more input.

We have to ask ourselves why our friend Jan Arne has SIX Assmann PABs ... must be some sort of addiction!

Philippe, I have two and I thought they were both zink but my silver one weighs 17. 5 gm and my bronze only weighs 12.3 gm. What do you think a tombak/buntmetal one would weigh? The silver weighs almost exactly as much as my nickle porsche.

                    Hi Don,

17,5 is a normal weight for a zinc Assmann but 12,3 for sure isn't. Could you post the bronze one Don, I would expect it to be a Kupal variant.

Difficult to say what a buntmetall Assmann would weigh. Everything would depend on the thickness of the material used. Based upon my experience hollow buntmetall PAB's can weigh between 12 and 22 grams with significant difference in badges from one and the same maker.

Well if we don't find any buntmetall Assmann PAB's we can only conclude that Assmann didn't get in to PAB production untill later in the war certainly taken into account that Kupal already was somekind of "Erzats" material.

My thought exactly Frank. In fact it had some zink pest starting so I put vasoline on it.
