Original silver grade, "broken stem", with all the finish gone. .

It's been so long now, that I forget why they nicknamed this maker, which remains unknown, the "broken stem". The features that stand out for this one are the eagle head + the right leg.

Greg Hays gave a good explanation in this old thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ht=broken+stem

                    I would say zinc.

                      Hi Brian,

Indeed, this is an original IAB. It is referred to as "broken stem" because the maker is currently unknown, but Rettenmaier is a good candidate.

The badge is zinc, no doubt about it. The large plates under the hinge and catch are almost always an indication of a zinc badge.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
