          Hi Edison,

I can only agree, a nice original likely made by Rudolf Karneth.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

            Hello

I agree with the others as well...an attributed Rudolf Karneth. This one is the unpebbled leaf variant.

            Best Regards, fischer

Let me play a little bit the devil's advocat here:

Why are we that sure that RK is "Rudolf Karneth" and that we can attribute this IAB to them?

In Gablonz there was another award making firm namend "R. Kreisel" and in official papers the company of Rudolf Karneth was namend as "Rudolf A. Karneth".

So how about the idea that the RK in a circle could be R. Kreisel instead of Rudolf A. Karneth?
                    Best regards, Andreas

                      Hi Andreas,

Very interesting observation! It would be interesting to know what other manufacturers were listed in that ad and blocked out. Were the other makers known from the PK and LDO lists?

                      Best regards,
                      ---Norm

                        Hi Norm,

i only had the blocked picture in my files because i aksed the same question some months ago in a german forum so i can't say exactly which makers were blocked out.

If i remember it right the ad shows for 90% main makers like Schickle, Steinhauer, Zimmermann, Juncker and so on but there were firms which aren't mentioned in any list too.
                        Best regards, Andreas

Sounds more than reasonable to me imo. My I ask if there are more discoveries like the Wiedmann history in your book Andreas?

                            Hi Daniel,

we will have the real history of certain makers which hopfully bring some "think about" to the collectors if it's a really possible to link unmarked badges only with the used hinge/catch or if firms like Steinhauer & Lück were able to produce all the different badges which are attributed to them.
                            Best regards, Andreas

Well I don't want to divert this thread, but have to interject that I don't think anyone suggests to attribute unmarked badges only on the basis of their reverse hardware -- it is always based on a combination of many factors.

Likewise, maker marks do not provide sufficient attribution on their own since they can be added by anyone after production -- again it must be a combination of many factors.

But we'll leave that discussion for other threads.

                              Best regards,
                              ---Norm
