      Hi Don,

That is something the both of us already discussed and I shared my opinion with you. Apart from that I don't see the link to what we're doing here.

Phil, it is relevent for two reasons. First, it is either as close to a vet pick up for this type badge as you are likly to get or:
it shows that even you can make a mistake.
The problem with this thread is that several people have come into it with preconceived notions of what is original and what is not. Then they look for evidence that supports thier postion and yell victory. I think that is why so few people have actually posted anything here and it will stay that way for sure.

Either way, I'm pretty fed up with this hobby and all the BS that goes with it. I might as well pack it all off to Detlev and have him sell it. It is too nice of a day out to be in here.

          Don,
I think you are referring to me here. I was very clear that my believe in Type 1 as the only original numbered GB PAB is absolutely my personal opinion and my personal opinion only! I stated this just today morning, so for more then 12 pages people got there chance to say something without seeing my position on it, besides Phil is still in believe that more then Type 1 could be accepted as original so I really don't understand why other people should be scare of from posting here...
@my BS – common Don, I’m not forcing anyone to believe me. As far as I’m concern, if I will be proven wrong here I will accept this and correct my position. You should know me better Don…
          BTW I don’t own Type 1...

Its not just you Robert. I get tired of seeing people get screwed and getting screwed myself. If the experts can't tell the difference then what chance do the rest of us have. Maybe I need a break or maybe I need a new hobby.

Don this is the only site that dares to tackle the question as opposed to go with the flow and never investigate...

Hi Don, perhaps I was not clear enough in my post earlier . Of course, manufacturers changed things throughout the war. The only thing I wanted to mention was that, for me, I would expect variations to have some of the characteristics of the more textbook examples. For instance, the finishing process might be the same even if the die was different, or the hardware might be the same, if the measurements were different.

I believe that there probably is more originals than just the Type 1, and that is what we are doing here. The hobby is frustrating at times but this is what makes it enjoyable. If there were no fakes what would we be discussing. best wishes,
                jeff

                              Hi Don,

I still feel that this is completely off topic and any such comments should kept out of this thread. I gladly continue this discussion in an other thread.

What I read in your replies is complete frustration, quite understandable but sadly enough an important part of the hobby we call ours. You don't really think the multi million $ fake industrie only sells to idiots or do you.

I really hope you don't look at me as fault free or an expert, such people just don't exist and if this thread proofed anything than it is just that. The complete lack of knowledge or understanding when it comes to the tricky stuff.

There are two ways you can cope with this, one stay on the safe side and buy textbook whenever possible and if textbook doesn't exist just walk away. The other option is not to rely on textbook, because who wrote te book anyway, but to do your own research in an effort to reach logical conclusion. I choose the later path and the bigger my collection gets the bigger my mistakes become

                              Here are the last 3

                              GAB 75 €2000
                              PAB 50 €1200
                              PAB 50 € 700

Why am I making these mistakes, very simple because I'm entering teritory where knowledge doesn't exist, the fakers are active longer then I collect and everybody has a badge directly from the vet. This last argument is the most important, If you have no clue about what you have in your collection just state that its from THE VET, and the discusion ends right there.

Does that frustrate me, yep it does but at the same time it only motivates me to go looking for the knowledge I lack and learn from these mistakes. This isn't always easy due to the lack of support but in the end I'm absolutely confident that I'll figure anything out that I set my mind to. The reward from the knowledge gathered compensates the financial loss by far.

I hope we can close this discussion and get back to the topic at hand. GB PAB's if I'm not mistaken.

Philippe, I don't hold you responsible for anything. I am responsible for everything I do. No problem there. I just brought that other thread up because either the grouping was good and as close to vet acquired as we are likely to get or it was bad. That part needs updated for the historical record here.

Back to this thread: I find it hard to believe that a maker would go back and hand finish acorn cups. The amount of man hours involved is mind boggling. Why would he do it? Did the dies wear out? How many badges would you have to make to wear out the dies, especially utilizing the die cast method of production?
Or is it more probable that someone trying to improve a casting might do that?

We know alot about manufacturing techniques. Name one other maker that enhanced the minor details of thier product by hand like this.
