I like the Heer 25yr Long Service Medal.

        Kriegsmetall.

I have 2 in my collection. Not easy to find.

          Hi Ian,

Beautiful collection and thanks for showing us your new display case.

I would like to make mention of one thing, though:

Be careful with displaying medals directly on top of their paper packets. If that case of yours is regularly subjected to bright light, the packets can fade over time and will leave ghost images of the medals behind. It can happen very easily, especially with the blue colored packets for Mother Crosses and Iron Crosses. Those packets are very susceptible to color-loss. Sunlight is the biggest concern, but incandescent and florescent lights are concerns as well.

          Best regards,
          Tom

Many thanks everyone, this is the prototype display ... for Jackie to see and either approve or disapprove. So far so good

Cheers for the advice Tom, actually the case gets no direct sunlight or even bright light at all, however I think the envelopes will be going back into storage to make room for the rest of my medals ... Allied, WWI and interwar.

Thanks Wayne, yes it's a nice one ... shame the gold finish has faded but hey, at least it's unquestionably real.

            Cheers, Ian.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                  Very nice, Ian.

I agree with Tom's point about the fading. Even if there is indirect light it will happen. You can remedy it by putting an anti UV film on the glass. It won't take away from how it looks and you'll be able to keep your packets out and displayed at all times.

                    Hi Ian,

Super selection of pieces and display!

Absolutely agree with Tom and Brian regarding fading as I learned the hard way a few years ago!

                    Best,

                    Jeff

Many thanks for your kind words guys, the 'case' is actually a single drawer in a coffee table so I'll be able to enjoy my collection every day instead of just occasionally and then normally individually.

Thanks for the tip-off on the anti-UV film Brian ... I'll be looking that one out

                          Cheers, Ian.

Here is a packet I have that shows two ghost images of an Iron Cross (one near the upper right and a less discernible one at the lower left). Notice also how the front of the packet has faded while the reverse, being protected from exposure to light, has retained its blue coloration.

                              Best regards,
                              Tom
