Outstanding collection Ian, your collection can really be enjoyed that way, instead of being in a closet hidden away.

Congratulations! Very nice, extensive and well displayed collection Ian. Mine doesnt even come close but still something to look forward to if I ever manage to get my stuff out of "mothballs" (individually packaged in banker's envelopes and piled in tupperware cases with disseccant!) to display it one day

Needless to say the wife is nowhere near as understanding of my passion as yours is (she calls it junk) but after 42 years together it aint likely to change anytime soon

            Best

Hi JC, again thanks for the comments guys

I think Jackie remembers how much it hurt to sell everything I had back in '95 and knows that the collection doesn't interfere with the running or funding of the household. She knows I'm careful what I buy and that come the day most (if not all) of the money outlayed can be 'recovered' IF we don't have a grandchild one day who is interested.

Could I get better picturs of the second class iron cross you have there?

The EKI 1914 in a IIIrd Reich case apparently ..

I set out to have one example of each medal in the best condition I could find/afford but I ended up collecting small groups ... Luftschutz in Aluminium and Zinc, Westwalls in Bronze and Zinc etc

                          I also ended up with 2 EKII 1939 ..

I had the mint W&L before the S&L but it came up at the right time so ..

                          Ian.

You are very kind ... not all for the purists though as they are unworn or very nearly unworn but they suit my purpose

                              Cheers, Ian.

Hi Ian, great collection and I love your display That said I would advice you to be carefull with storing medals in wooden caseings because wood frees acidious gasses that harms metal. A colleague, working with preservation at the Danish National museum, once told me that they had exhibited lead bullets in a showcase made of oak and that it caused the bullets to deteriorate. You can read more about it heres http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/journal...ted-with-wood/

I hate to be the bearer of these trublesome news.
