Seriously ... that's good news ... the old "been there done that" Gold WBs show some character ...

They have more war stories to tell than their sissy MINT relatives that never saw a shot fired

To me this does look like a Gold example.

Have you tried looking at the front receses under a loop in natural lighting? That's usually a big help to me in trying to determine these things.
              Regards,
              Chris

                  Sure Laurence,

I meant "front recesses" (sometimes it's a wonder I can spell my own name! ).

Look down in the nooks & crannies, in between the bumps, leaves, etc. Usually there's at least a little bit of the original finish left in there somewhere, no matter how worn the badge.
                  Regards,
                  Chris

another one, this is my main argument, because this looks like a classic wear as opposed to patina or oxidization. You can almost see a ridge where the gold stops!

Yep Laurence, that looks like a gold one to me.

Scanners sure are great for blowing up those tiny, hard to see places!
                        Regards,

I know I am new here but wanted to give you some advice, being a little late with it I apologize, however please if it is all possible do not use nail polish remover to lightly clean your medals, badges, etc. Nail polish remover does not contain 100% pure acetone. There are other chemicals present in nail polish remover that leaves a residue and over time can damage the metal or dis-colour your pieces. If you want to use acetone please purchase the 100% acetone at a home improvement or paint store. This is a lesson I learned the hard way and wanted to pass this on to you nice folks.

                            Cheers,
                            Micheál

Thanks Micheal, Actually I did not clean the whole badge but tried it on a small part to see if it would remove some of the colour.

Some wise old Owl once told me .. "If warm soapy water doesn't take off what you want off .. it isn't meant to come off".
