        Ostvolk Awards

        They took a while to collect, especially the packets for the gold medals. I would imagine that they have become even more scarce these days. Hope you like them, Jeff

          Nice collection with the packets! You still have to find packets for the first class! Those are hard to find.

            Jeff, thanks for posting. I like the first class box variations you have, and the nice array of paper packets.

            regards, Robert

                    Ron,
                    nice original award and packet, unfortunately packet for 2nd class. This type 1st class in gold should be in box with rounded corners, but 1st class in silver in packet. Still hard to find this bag for 2nd class in gold.

                      After talking with Andrei we thought it would be a good idea to show you all a pair of HIGHLY DUBIOUS Ostvolk Medals I won on ebay UK last weekend. They are both now on their way back to the seller but here are the details...

                      They both weigh 17 grams including ribbon and pin to the nearest I can weigh. Both ribbons and brooch stitching are UV negative but both carry a strong chemical smell and artificial aging applied in our opinions.

                      Maker marked '15'

                      And the bronze ...

                      The pins are the same except colour obviously ..

                      Hope this helps someone else avoid a more costly and non-reversible mistake

                      Cheers, Ian. <!-- / message -->

                              This medal I found in the thread has almost the exact same features minus the pitting on the back. I guess according to this thread, this kind is a repo? It's kind of confusing.Maybe you can clear it up a little bit for me. The thread starts here: Questionable 2nd class with swords in bronze marked “100” with and without swords.

                              Very interested examples. Again you can see them only in bronze grade, some made from zinc, some from tombak. You can see both example, in zinc and tombak, almost always in mint conditions.(which is very suspicious for me).

                              a. 2nd class in bronze with swords, made from tombak with maker “100” on the ring. Very, very questionable. In 1942 all awards for German soldiers made from zinc and here… oops surprise, medal for foreigners made from tombak???? Never reported dugout.
                              I marked very lack of details and differences from original type1 flatback medal.
