This is my all time favourite German medal, a piece of art work in my mind !!! Simple and elegant, I just love the little thing !!!


They never came issued in boxes, these boxes are FAKE and Frank H has a picture of one.

There are to my knowledge four known examples of issue packet 'type' available for the Eastern Front Medal.

Here are three, the fourth is a blue packet with a gothic inscription on the front, one of our members has one......I'm still after one like it !! (All packets as far as I'm aware came in the reddish brown packet which is common, a tan also and subsequently a blue packet)

The more rare/desirable of these packets is the Juncker marked packet which is smaller in size than the ordinary 'generic' packet size. It's not uncommon to find genuine issue Juncker flight badges in smaller Luft blue boxes.......this reason is unknown to myself at this moment in time; even the 30's Juncker packets were smaller?? A Juncker trait maybe ???)

Having said that, the blue packet with gothic writing on the front is also a rareity and I've only ever seen one of these !!! So a level pegging with the Juncker I think !

I'm no expert and this is my own prognosis in my area of interest.........there are some excellent examples of packets here and I want them, always go for full maker named ones as opposed to L 55 etc on the packet the LDO marked ones are much more common and very much available from dealers.

Give it a few years and even this award will be difficult to obtain packeted I'm sure.

I agree with Marcus, my favorite of the Reich medals. Having lost a great-Uncle in Stalingrad, that might have influenced my thoughts.

Blue packet w/Ost Medal
