Here is a 15 & 10yr device from another one of my ribbon bars.

Andrew, great close up shots, thanks. Are you sure they are the real deal ? I don't see much detail on these (head, chest feathers, wreath). Am I getting confused ?

      Gentlemen,

I thank you all for these excellent pics and advice...the close-up shots really are a big help. Having seen so many devices i think we have started quite a distinctive thread here.

      Best regards to all!

Here they are for those who are not members on GMIC Forum.

From studying all these devices i now know what i do not like about the bar i opened the thread with....the eagles heads...they are an odd shape and completely lack any detail. This is a major difference i notice between this one and the originals posted.

        Kind regards

        Hi Pierce,

The eight-place NSDAP/SS ribbon bar you show at the bottom of post #22 is a fake. It is one of those classic "Ohio fraud bars." That bar is currently for sale on the Summer Vacation Militaria website.

Here is a link to the reverse:

        And here is the front:

The bar has some wear on it and much of the silver finish on the 15yr device has gone. It came from the same seller as my SS and 3 NDSAP device bar. I see no problems with it. Here is a full photo.

I may need to reset my gauge as to what level of detail to expect. But before doing that, I'd like some more opinions, please.

Yes Andrew's bar is excellent and totally original in my opinion.

Thanks for posting these for others to see Tom.

The minute i saw the reverse i knew straight away it was an Ohio!! A shame that this bar is now on hold for some unsuspecting collector for nearly $300!!

Here is a close-up if the devices....

I have been comparing devices, and found quite many differences. Some have detail where others don't and vice versa.

But then again, the devices are quite small: The wreath measures only 1 cm in diameter. They are from thin material and may have easily suffered from wear.

I am not sure they would draw attention from fakers. At the bottom line, I am less suspicious of the devices now than I was back then.

I agree with most of all the ocmments here and you did get the "alte Hase" Opinion. I have posted a few long service ribbon bars (they are at home and I am in the office) I don't like the wash and detail on the eagles, the wear on the ribbon is not congruent with the wear, aging, on the frame.

Here a few of mine that I found posted here earlier...
is that a life saving medal ribbon in there? Silesia perhaps?

also interesting to note is how AndrewB's ribbon bar (from stogieman) uses a similar backing as to the other with all three decorations shown by tyanacek

                            Hi William,

Yes I noticed that too. That lead me to check on other ribbon bars with the so call "Austrian fold" ribbons and/or Austrian ribbon bars in general. I discovered that not all, but the majority of these have this type of backing.

                            More than a coincidence?

Here is a great old thread about ribbon bars. On the bottom of the first page Robin Lumsden has an Austrian fold SS and police device ribbon bar with the same backing. A super rare bar btw.

I have actually held AndrewBs' bar in my hand....and Rick Lundstrom authenticated it. I remember the heated discussion about the year it was made because of the LS medal and the spange.
