Thanks to the knowledge and expertise of Rick Lundström, this medal bar was positively identified as belonging to Oberst Hermann von Oelhafen. I bought this medal bar in 2006, at which time I was told by the dealer that the medal bar had belonged to an Oberst. He said that he had the name written down at home, but the information never surfaced, so I figured the name would be forever lost to history. Fortunately, Rick remembered seeing this medal bar in 2002, when it was still paired with the Officer's named tunic and the rest of his decorations and ribbon bars. Once again, I am indebted to Rick.
(The Bavarian Military Merit Order is by Gebrüder Hemmerle and has a solid gold central medallion cipher.)Attached FilesLast edited by Tom Yanacek; 12-05-2008, 10:02 PM.Mihi libertas necessest!

This gem of a medal bar belongs to a friend of mine. Thanks once again to the researching genius of Rick Lundström, this bar was positively identified as having belonged to Major ausser Dienst Oskar Bergner. Super, super rare! One of only seven Bavarians to be awarded the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha Duke Carl Eduard Medal during WWI. And of the seven recipients, Bergner was the only one to have both the the Bavarian Military Merit Order with Swords and the Bavarian 24-Year Long Service Cross. It doesn't get much better than this!Attached FilesMihi libertas necessest!

Great stuff Tom!!
Here is my newest one, attributed to:
Gen.Maj. Heinrich Seywald
(Attributed as this is apparently a common enough combo, but the bar was sold to me with this name).Attached FilesLast edited by luftkrieg; 07-10-2009, 06:56 AM.
