    Dear All,

All very beautiful Medals with very nice photos.
Special thanks to Adolph for all the close ups of their beautiful Spanish Campaign Medals, with their markings.
I think now that there is not more much to say about this Medal...

    regards

    Ciano

Wow - more great medal bars gentlemen! Thanks for sharing them.

I'll post all the variants I could find during my 2-day on-line search. Thanks to everyone for sharing their SCW campaign medals (la Medalla de la Campana); however, this is by no means a complete list of all possible types, and I solicit more photos from collectors for further study in this thread. Some of the pictures I post may be dark, so you may need to turn up the brightness of your computer monitor to see the details I point out.

First up, two with identical 'Egana' markings in the same spot on the front (look for the red circles/white dots), but from two different dies. The one on the left is the now infamous "balloon" type, so-named for the small, distinctive shape at the top on both sides (green circles/white dots). There are other minor die strike differences as well if you study them closely. Neither is maker-marked on the reverse.

Next up are three more that are maker-marked on the front only. The left and center medals are very similar, but the 'Egana' marks are in slightly different locations (left, directly under the tail; center, slightly right of the tail), and the ammount of 'non-wreath area' at the top on each is different. There are other minor detail differences as well. The medal on the right has the 'Egana' mark laid-out almost horizontally under the tail...

The next photos represent a series of four medals with maker-marks on both sides. On the front, each has "A.M" either above the upper lion paw or between the toes of the lower paw. On the reverse, the 'Indrustrias Egana' mark is either placed near-virtically along the shield, or along the lower edge near the helmet. I've seen examples of all four of these different strikes. Anyone know what the "A.M." stands for?

Here are a couple of unmarked examples. The one on the left has the 'balloon'-shape at the top of each side, while the one on the right does not.

I've given up trying to figure out which might be pre-1945 medals since nearly every type can be found mounted to a period medal bar. Your guess is as good as mine as far as the relative rarety of each type. I believe Egana is still in business in Spain. Does anyone have any contacts in the company that might be able to help determine a maker-mark history of this medal?

Thanks Ciano for starting this thread and posting his unique contemporary medal. Lets continue to search for and post more examples so we can expand our knowledge of this relatively common, but historically significant medal (and drool over more nice medal bars ).

                  Great work Scott!
We appreciate the effort you've put in. What an incredible mix of medals!
The one that i find very strange is the last one, it has the "balloon" but is the only one that is very different to all the others, the shape of the lion is incredibly different to the others, looks like it needs a good meal.
My favourite one is still the first one you've shown, love the detail on it.
                  Ant.

Thanks guys - I couldn't have put it together without your help.

For me, what I find annoying about this medal is the way it's marketed by dealers; often called "scarce" or even "rare", yet you would be hard- pressed to find any on-line dealer, auction, or show table without 2 or 3 of these for sale (mint and boxed) at prices ranging from $75 to $175. Kai Winkler must have 20 for sale on his site at ~$100 each ... for a medal that was in production for nearly 40 years. Of course, they are highly desirable on authentic medal bars, although those are now being made today from original parts and ribbons by unscrupulous people around the globe ...

Alberto - thank you for your pictures! I completely overlooked the tiny "A.M." on the reverse side under the eagle's wingtip . Okay guys, please check your medals for this additional marking - is it on all 'front-and-back' marked medals? (I can't tell from the photos I posted) I don't see it on the front-only or unmarked types...

                        Thanks.

                          Dear All,

After this complete and brilliant explanation about this medal, I am sure that some members are going now asking for these medals which will increase the price of all this medals
You will see next month these selling at $200

                          regards

My medal has NO AM marked on it front or rear, just has the Egana on the front.

                              Hi everyone !
As you see, the telephone number of "Industrias Egaña" is stamped on the medal box...I have sent some e-mails to main telephonic company here in Spain as well to some museums to find out when spaniards used three figures telephonic numbers.. (nowadays we use 9 numbers to each telephonic number, so I guess this medals can be old )...I will post any new about this.

Lets see if this "police" work works
                              Kind Regards from Spain.
