    M-38 Helmet from Orne, France

I posted this in the Helmet section but thought it would be best here....I purchased this helmet at a Militaria shop in St. Marie Du Mont near Normandy..Its my first german helmet...It was found in an attic of a house attic in Orne ...I've been told its a mid-late war helmet with 3 bolts and liner ring...Other than that i dont know to much about it...I know that FJR 3 and FJR 6 fought in Orne late in the war...Here are more pics from different angles...they are about the best pics that my iphone can handle...the only stamping that i could find legible is included below.
Could anyone let me know a short history of this particular helmet? Approximate value in U.S. dollars and anything else you would like to share...thx

Not the FJR3, it is impossible in 1944. The regiment fought in Italy.

Maybe, 3. FJD or 5. FJD.

Thanks for the quote but its worth way more than that...Fully rusted m-38 helmet relic shells were selling all day long in France from 350 - 780 eu....that didn't include the liner ring or bolts.

If you know what it is worth then why are you asking?

It could have been worn by a member of the 3rd or 5th FJDs, or FJR6. The Orne region covers most of the Falaise Gap battlefield.

As I mentioned on the other thread you posted, it is a late war shell.

                Hello,

Agree with Willi. And have serious doubts that M38 with aluminium bolts were in Normandy before the closure of the Falaise gap .
The seller sold you a "Nice story".

How convenient that it turned up for sale during the 70th Anniversary proceedings

I was in Normandy for the 70th and purposely avoided any antique or military shops....

The seller never told me that...all he said was that it was found in a house in Orne, France..Then i briefly looked up who was fighting in that area in Lions of Carentan book..Don Calder from FJR-6 authenticated the helmet for me as an original...i made sure that i was buying an original helmet and not a story. That is all that i was looking for...I cant afford a "pristine" condition helmet for thousands of dollars just to display in my house...I paid a very fare price for it that i would never see in the U.S.

I have recently got it appraised by a local collector since my initial post...he offered me double what i paid for it...but i refused his offer.

I agree with your assessment of the FJR in the Falaise Gap...Hopefully its a FJR-6 helmet(that's my reenactment group)...i guess i'll never know

Sounds good, what did you pay for it, I assume in Euro's?

C'mon guys. It is original, it is likely to be from the Normandy battle area, and it is worth around $1500-1700 IMO.

I went to that shop on June 7th.
