            Hi Milan
            Eagles discussed in these 2 threads;
FJ eagle jump smock original ?? or not

            Question about jumpsmock eagle restoration

The Eagle pattern are with certainty a pattern used on jumpsmocks.

Here compared with a early true GM backed jumpsmock eagle with the same eagle pattern, which of cause must mean that the Maker were this eagle sewingmachine were located, also for sure made Jump smocks eagles and probably therefore also Jumpsmocks. Best Jan

                Hey John
You´re right about the eagle you showed are one of the most common used on Jump smocks.
But we actually don´t know much about the eagles in question, as they ONLY have been seen on this cut-off piece of jumpsmock that I have shown. So it´s hard to say what they primarily were made for, but I´ve grown to think that Willi´s theory about these being replacements for wool eagles could be correct, and that also fits them turning up on jump smocks, excactly like the seldom cases of wool eagles on jump smocks, in the excact same period.

Remember almost ALL kind of colors cotton(/Rayon) twill backed eagles also are used on jump smocks, so why shouldn´t these have been??

                Best Jan

I too disagree with the assertion that they were primarily jump smock eagles.

I like them for sure, and as Jan just mentioned, I believe they are late war replacements for wool eagles. They made cap eagles just like it (encountered on blue wool caps) and they also make the sleeve trade badges.

To date I haven't yet encountered those eagles on the lightweight Luft flights jackets. I have only seen the thin bluegray eagles used on them. A couple of wool eagles as well.

I agree the gray (they made the same style in green as well) eagle John presented is known to be a smock eagle, but I have seen them on splinter smocks as well.

Jan, wool eagles are more commonly encountered on splinter smocks than we used to believe.

As to the cut piece, I just talked to someone at a show who has a large piece of water pattern smock material. I wanted to buy it but he foolsihly admitted to me that he was going to cut it up and add eagles to sell on eBay as original cut smock eagles, to make more $$ than if he sold the fabric to me (I just wanted to "secure it"). I thought to myself "well, he would have use use wool eagles because where would he find "standard" smocks eagles at a reasonable price. Just food for thought........

                        Hi Willi
Hmmm Interesting about the guy you talked to, I also had the thought that this were the only way cutoff could be faked, and that certaily would blur the pictures of the questions we´re trying to answer. Hate guys like that.
Sorry you coudn´t secure the piece of fabric, but thanks for trying

Then we still have to see and be on the lookout for some more evidence on which these eagles original were applied to.

John You have a cut off in your book among the jumpsmocks cutoffs shown, and it´s the biggest one of them shown on page 237. Is it possible you could show us this cutoff?

                        Best Jan

Jan, if you are speaking of the cut off on the far left, then Willi will have to show you a detail of that one. Sent that one his way a long time ago. The other large one, (second from right on the same row) I still have. Both are wool backed.

And I still (strongly) share Steve's doubts about the eagle on Sumpf you have again shown, the eagle that kbec originally posted.

                            Hi John
It´s of cause harder to judge, when scamartists like the one Willi´s told us about blurring the pictures at the same time, so we still have to look for other exambles to know for sure.

Here is the cutoff I´m talking about.
Is it a jump smock cutoff or a FD Jacket cut off?

Just to clearify... These eagles have never yet been found on LW flight jackets.

An important question to ask about these eagles could also be; Why make a subdued version
if they are not for smocks for LW soldiers fighting on the ground?? I have never seen a subdued
                                breast eagle on a flightjacket.

All the subdued versions of LW breast eagles that have turned up, have all been on LW smocks.

Blue Flight jacket eagles backing are seldom made of ribbed cotton twill, and the dark Blue ribbed
eagles that sometimes are used on these light flight jackets are also used as jump smock eagles.
