Never saw one with this backing on a smock, yet. Looks tropical. Very nice eagles!

Most likely an eagle for the HBT jacket, but some (very few) were applied to late war smocks. Handsome eagle.

Here are two eagles Willi and Steve recently posted. Are these smock eagles only, or were they used on other uniforms?

These are not only found on smocks but other uniforms as well, very rare and highly desierable (at least to my old eyes)

Here is an example of exactly what you describe. And before the deluge of PMs begin, the tunic illustrated is not mine. However it will be illustrated in a future book I'm working on.
